Mama is already on the bus

Young man, prepares to take a journey
To points unknown
Bags packed, with all he owns

Mama and Papa old like Abraham and Sarah
Wait to get on the bus
Child they did not birth,
But still of their blood

Bus operator checks Papa and Young man’s tickets
“Where is Mama?” says Papa to his son
Young man says to Papa “Mama is already on the bus”

At the first stop they get off
Young man lays his head down to rest
Mama paces and quietly prayers
Papa gets his Bible out
Worn from use out and reads

None of them are aware of the picture they paint
Of family, of love, of pride

Today marks the day Young man became a man
